Enterprise in the Valleys
Enterprise in the Valleys is an exciting new project that seeks to encourage young people to learn and develop entrepreneurial skills. To help this project grow we are looking for young people (11-25) with a keen interest in enterprise and volunteers who would be prepared to mentor the young people as they learn new skills.
“Enterprise in the Valleys” was launched in Communities First wards in the Western Valleys area. The project jointly funded by the Western Valleys Strategic Regeneration Area and Communities First Outcomes Funding aims to develop the entrepreneurial skills of young people aged 11-25 as part of the regeneration of communities.
As a volunteer mentor with this project you could:
- Support young people in setting up their ‘enterprises’ within the community by becoming a mentor.
- Help deliver a range of learning programmes to 11-25 year olds through non formal methods within their communities that will help them gain the necessary entrepreneurial skills.
- Encourage and support young people to aim for accreditation.
We are looking for young people aged 11-25 (individuals or groups) who are eligible that would like to develop their entrepreneurial skills. They will be able to engage in a choice of activities which will help them to learn new skills to find employment, have some fun, gain accreditation and make new friends. Young people will be able to participate in a wide range of programmes delivered in their local communities which will give them valuable enterprise skills.
They can get involved either through attending:
- A one day workshop;
- A 15 week programme requiring a commitment of approximately 2-3 hours a week where they will complete a community enterprise project from start to finish;
- A 10 day programme during school holidays;
- A 12 week programme aimed at young people aged 16+. This programme requires a commitment of 1 day a week;
- Or a 3 day workshop.
This project will benefit young people on several levels – they can gain skills if they want to be self-employed, they can gain invaluable knowledge about how business works increasing their employability and they will also receive accreditation for the work they have done.
Within Neath Port Talbot the project will be operating in the following areas: Dulais Valley, Upper Afan Valley, Upper Amman, Neath Town Centre, Briton Ferry West, Neath East, Pelenna, Ystalyfera, Cimla and Fairyland.
