The Process

Before you volunteer, there are a number of things you should think about to help you find an opportunity that is right for you.

Step 1 – It’s YOUR Choice

  • Think about what you can offer others – what skills have you got?
  • What are you hoping to gain out of volunteering?
  • Would you like to work alone or as part of a group?
  • Chose to work with people, a particular topic or organisation that you are interested in
  • Decide how much time you can afford

Step 2 – Contact the Volunteer Centre

Contact the Volunteer Centre to arrange a confidential, informal chat about volunteering. You can do this by:

Step 3 – Volunteer Appointment

When you visit we can:

  • Discuss volunteering options
  • Complete your Volunteer registration form
  • Decide on the opportunity/organisation you’re interested in
  • The Volunteer Centre will refer you to your chosen organisation(s)

Step 4 – Chosen Organisation(s) will Contact You

They will:

  • Give you more information about what they do
  • Tell you what days/hours are available
  • Arrange for you to meet up with them

Step 5 – You Decide

To help you decide whether the chosen organisation(s) is the right one for you, you may decide to:

  • Volunteer with the organisation for 4 weeks before deciding you want to commit
  • Look at other organisations
  • Come back to the Volunteer Centre to discuss other options
