Frequently Asked Questions
I am under 18. Can I still volunteer?
Yes! There maybe some organisations that only take on over 18s, but there are still plenty of opportunities. So if you’re aged up to 25 then read on
What opportunities are available?
We will try to find a role that will match your interests whether its sports, animals, scouts, guides, volunteering with senior citizens, youth opportunities bank etc

But I haven’t really got much time to spare.
No problem. Give as much time as you can, for example one hour a week. Of course if you’re keen you can do much more!
Why should I bother volunteering?
It can help you:
- Gain new skills
- improve confidence
- feel good about yourself
- meet new people
- get access to training
- try out a career option
Will my qualifications from school/college not be enough to get me a job?
Your qualifications are extremely important, however there are less jobs around at the moment so any extra experience you gain from volunteering can help add to your options
I already have a part time job though, so there’s no point in volunteering.
Well again that job is important in giving you new skills, but over half of employers suggest voluntary experience can be more important than any paid experience, so volunteer as well! Don’t forget volunteering won’t leave you out of pocket, as you will get paid your expenses.
Do I get anything to show how much volunteering I’ve done?
There are volunteer award evenings held each year and if you’re aged 16-25 you can sign up for millennium volunteers to gain further recognition.
