Business Mentors
Business Mentors provide mentoring support to young people with a viable business idea. This role is about guidance and helping the young people to develop their businesses whilst also building their confidence and skills. It involves helping young people to find and translate information, understand problems, identify solutions and implement action plans.
Information & Advice Services
In Citizens Advice Bureaus or other local advice centres working with people on issues of welfare and consumer rights.
Support Older People
Visiting, befriending, offering practical help such as gardening or shopping, helping at day centres, organising activities, luncheon clubs, transport.
Counseling
Covering a range of issues. It could be within a group, with individuals or a telephone helpline.
Work in Hospitals
Friendly face at bedside, transport to and from appointments, hospital radio, hospital shops.
Work with the Criminal Justice System
Prison visiting, support for prisoners and their families, working with local youth offending team.
Support People with Mental Health problems
Befriending and assisting with social activities.
Support Disabled People/People with a Learning Disability
Providing practical support for someone who has a physical disability or a learning disability, befriending, help with group outings.
Support Homeless People
Information and advice, assisting in hostels or outreach programmes.
Community Development
Helping at the local community centre, join the residents group.
Fundraising
Organise events like sponsored walks and help out in a charity shop.
Environment/Conservation
Help clear paths and communal areas, plant trees, dry stone walling and restoring canals.
Committee/Trustees
Many community groups and even larger organisations rely on volunteers to sit on their committees to ensure that the group functions and there are the roles of chair, treasurer and secretary which are crucial to the running of an organisation.
