Paying for Care Leaflet

The Assembly Government has launched its Green Paper, ‘Paying for Care in Wales’.  Consultation on the Green Paper proposals will run until 28 February 2010.  As part of the publicity around this consultation, a leaflet has been prepared for distribution within local libraries, GP surgeries and Citizens Advice Bureaux.  The A4 bilingual leaflet advertises the fact that the consultation is taking place, promotes the website www.payingforcareinwales.net, and encourages people to respond.

Firework Display Grants

Grant Applications are now being taken by NPTCBC to support community groups who organise firework displays in celebration of Guy Fawkes Night.  Eligible community groups can now apply for grants of up to £500 to organise their own firework displays and also receive help and advice on safety at the event.  Groups can find out more about this scheme by contacting Kerry Jones or Suzette Phillips on 01639 860008 or preferably via email at specialevents@npt.gov.uk.  The closing date for receipt of applications is 25th September 2009. Appointment of the Fundraising Standards Board Manager for Wales

Charities and fundraising suppliers across Wales are being urged to demonstrate their commitment to best practice in fundraising by signing up to self-regulation.  The self-regulatory scheme for fundraising is run by the independent Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB).  It requires members to make a public commitment to best practice in fundraising.  The FRSB has also opened an office to support charities in Wales, with the appointment of Simon Boex as Manager for Wales.  Boex’s role is to recruit more charities in Wales to the scheme, raise awareness of the high standards that member charities commit to and build public confidence in charitable giving.

Mortage Rescue Action Plan

A new plan to help homeowners facing repossession was launched by the Deputy Minister for Housing, Jocelyn Davies AM on 24 June. In light of the current economic climate, the Mortgage Rescue Action Plan has been produced with a number of partners including Local Authorities, Housing Associations and the Council of Mortgage Lenders to provide support to struggling families and to make sure they know what help that is available. http://wales.gov.uk/news/latest/090624mortgagerescueactionplan/?lang=en

Consultation on the Dormant Accounts Scheme

Dormant Accounts are bank and building society accounts that have not been accessed by customers for at least 15 years.  The Welsh Assembly Government has identified spending priorities and these are set out in this document.
