The Engagement Gateway - Pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) briefing session

The Gateway is a scheme under the European union’s Convergence programme, which is the successor to Objective 1.  It aims to reduce economic inactivity in Wales by investing in organisations that improve the empolyability of disadvantaged people furthest from the labour market.  A briefing session on the PQQ was held at 2pm on Thursday 2nd April 2009 at Neath Port Talbot CVS, Ty-Margaret Thorne, 17-19 Alfred Street, Neath.

Third Sector Consultation event on Proposals for ‘Delivering the new NHS for Wales’

9th February 2009

Over 50 voluntary sector organisations, carers and service user groups attended and participated at the consultation event held at the Aberavon Beach, Port Talbot. The event was hosted by Neath Port Talbot CVS and included an introduction and welcome from Gaynor Richards, Director, Neath Port Talbot CVS with the keynote speech giving an overview of the consultation by Dr Andrew Goodall, Chief Executive of Neath Port Talbot, Swansea and Bridgend Local Health Boards and Transition Director for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Trust Area.

The event included workshops which were held in the second part of the morning providing an oppourtunity for participants to discuss their points of view on the following proposals:

  • Local Helath Board Membership
  • Stakeholder Reference Membership
  • Professional Forum Membership
  • Local Health Board Functions
  • Localism and Partnership Working

A report in feedback and the collective response was forwarded to the Welsh Assembly Government following the event.

Volunteer your way to success: Give your application the X factor!

A hugely successful event to promote volunteering was held at the Theatre, Neath College, Neath for over a hundred young people.  Organised by Neath Port Talbot CVS in partnership with Neath College and St Joseph’s School, the event aimed to promote to the students the benefits and value of volunteering for their future career or university applicaitions.

The keynote speaker was Tori James, who is the youngest British female as well as the first ever Welsh woman to climb Mount Everest.  Apart form speaking about her remarkable achievement, Tori also told the students how her volunteering experience had helped gain her the desired place at University a message that was echoed by other speakers at the event.  These speakers included Rebecca James, Welsh Development and Recruitment Officer from Swansea University along with volunteers from Discovery Student Volunteering and the Social Services Volunteer Scheme who spoke about how volunteering had benefited their lives.

A wide range of organisations were present including Neath CAB, Childline, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg NHS, Barnardos Cymru and Victim Support who attended to promote the volunteering oppourtunities that they have for young volunteers within their organisations.

‘Paying for Care in Wales: Creating a Fair and Sustainable System ‘ - Consultation Event

A consultation event was held for Third Sector organisations to discuss the above consultation.  Guest speaker, Gwenda Thomas AM, Deputy Minister for Social Services gave an overview of the National context of the document while Tony Clements, Head of Community Care Services, Neath Port Talbot CBC, gave the local context.  Following the event a response was submitted to the assembly from the information gathered on the day.
