There are a variety of employment initiatives within Neath Port Talbot that aim to get people back into work. There are also a number of employment vacancies within the local voluntary sector.

There are a number of information sheets which provide some background and support for those individuals looking to work in the Voluntary Sector and many which detail the essential information for employing and managing people.

The third sector’s latest job vacancies are also availabe on the recruit3 website. recruit3 is developed in Wales in association with the WCVA and The Big Issue Cymru.

The Welsh Assembly Government Public Appointment Current Vacancies are available to view online on the Welsh Assembly Government website.  Current vacancies include the Care Council for Wales – Appointment of members.  An information pack can be downloaded from the website and the advert is also accessible.

Sustainable Organisation Development Officer

One of the development officers at Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services will be taking maternity leave from November 2010 and temporary cover is required for this post commencing from Monday 18th October 2010 initially for 41 weeks to 31st July 2011.

The Collaborative Communities Sustainable Organisation Development Officers work with 3rd Sector social economy organisations in Pembrokeshire, offering an holistic service designed to ensure long-term sustainability.

They work with organisations to help them to diagnose their current and future potential to move towards a more trading and contracting focus for their business, and when it is appropriate, help them to project plan to realise that potential and broaden their funding base.

This is a Convergence funded partnership project between the 4 Local Authorities and County Voluntary Councils within the Regional Partnership Forum for the South West Wales area.

Playworker (Part-time)

Play Right has been successful in being awarded Childs Play Lottery funding to deliver a Regional Play Project across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. Play Right is seeking creative thinking, enthusiastic and adaptable people to build a new team of Playworkers to increase opportunities for primarily 8 – 12 year olds to engage in freely chosen play. This team will work from a newly acquired Play Bus in 20 communities across Neath Port Talbot over a period of 4 years. Providing engaging, challenging and exciting opportunities for them to play.

Playworker (Part-time)

Hours: 20 per week, to be worked flexibly Monday to Friday between 2.30pm and 7.30pm to provide after school play sessions, hours could change during school holidays.

Area : Neath Port Talbot Communities

Salary : £15,725 pa pro rata

Term: 4 years contract subject to employment terms & conditions

Applicants must have some experience of working with children and young people aged 5-15 years in a play setting and have, be willing to or be working towards a playwork qualification. You must have a clear commitment to supporting ‘free play’ opportunities.  You will need to be able to create an environment where children and young people are able to experience a range of ‘Play Types’. mYou will need an awareness of child development through play and an understanding of the biological need for taking risks while playing. You will be required to work in play spaces engaging and playing with the elements of wind, rain, fire and earth. You may also be required to facilitate play within the limited space of the Play Bus and should therefore possess the skills necessary to respond to and adapt children’s play to enable it to continue in this space.  The ability and experience of driving a Play Bus is desirable. If you are versatile, patient and sensitive to the needs of children & young people this could be the job for you!! Due to the nature of the project annual leave is not normally permitted during school holidays and the successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check.

Nursery Manager

Established Day Nursery with registered capacity for 40 children, a loyal staff and a proven track record in its local community, require a Nursery Manager.

All applicants must be experienced at Nursery Manager level and be fully qualified to NVQ4 level.

The Nursery Manager will need to show strong oral and written skills, excellent leadership and supervisory skills, expertise with CSSIW standards, understanding of financial budgets, exceptional communicator and able to demonstrate sensitivity and awareness when communicating with parents and staff.

This is an exciting role for someone who is keen to work within an environment where real change can be delivered.

Some of your responsibilities will be:

  • To achieve and maintain high standards of care and education
  • To effectively lead and manage the staff team
  • To effectively manage the budget and occupancy levels to ensure the nursery is profitable
  • To ensure all policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to at all times
  • Building strong parent relationships
  • Fostering a strong team ethic within the setting

You will need to have the following qualifications, training and experience:

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to targets and deadlines
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Excellent communication and people management skills
