Funding Surgeries

Appointment of the Fundraising Standards Board Manager for Wales

Charities and fundraising suppliers across Wales are being urged to demonstrate their commitment to best practice in fundraising by signing up to self-regulation.  The self-regulatory scheme for fundraising is run by the independent Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB).  It requires members to make a public commitment to best practice in fundraising.  The FRSB has also opened an office to support charities in Wales, with the appointment of Simon Boex as Manager for Wales.  Boex’s role is to recruit more charities in Wales to the scheme, raise awareness of the high standards that member charities commit to and build public confidence in charitable giving. Neath Port Talbot CVS – Neath Port Talbot Capital Grants Scheme

Maximum Grant £15,000

Aim of the Fund

Neath Port Talbot Capital Grants Scheme 2008/2010 is a local grant fund that will target groups which provide or intend to provide services which impact on locally developed strategies e.g. Health, Social Care and Wellbeing, Physical Activity Action Plan, Valleys Strategy, Nutrition Plan, Local Social Enterprise Strategy.

The grant will provide Capital Grants from £500 TO £15,000 to support the development of new and exisiting Voluntary/Community groups. The application deadlines are quarterly.

Under 8′s Small Grant Scheme

Maximum grant £1,000

Aim of the Fund

The scheme is available to establish, expand and develop day-care services, including playgroups, parent and toddler groups, day nurseries, family centres, home visiting schemes, childminding support, self-help groups, toy libriaries and play buses.

One off minor capital and non-recurring revenue grants are available.  The maximum grant is £1,000, however grants are normally between £100-£600:

  • Up to £300 for those groups that already exist
  • Up to £600 for new groups

This is a rolling grant programme and the panel meet approximately every six weeks. Guidelines and Critera are available for download online.

Neath Port Talbot Youth Opportunities Bank

Maximum Grant £500

Aim of the Fund

The fund is open to applications, from groups or individuals aged between 16-25 living in Neath Port Talbot.  The activity must benefit your community and provide new skills or experiences.

The next application deadlines are:

  • 29 October 2010

Applications can be made for between £50 – £500

Community Facilities and Activities Programme – Grant Scheme

Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Service has secured funding from the Welsh Assembly’s Community Facilities and Activities Programme to target groups which provide or intend to provide services which impact on locally developed strategies e.g. Health Social Care and Wellbeing, Physical Activity Plan, Independence and Quality of Life for Older People Action Plan, Valleys Strategy, Nutrition Plan, Local Social Enterprise Strategy. The scheme will provide Capital Grants from £500 to £15,000 to assist new and existing organisations including those which are hard to reach, to engage in activities which will provide longer term sustainable outcomes for their communities.

Priority will be given to smaller groups with an income of up to £50,000 and new organisations and grants are for Capital expense only revenue expenditure is ineligible.

Carmarthenshire Community Development Fund – Notice of 2010/11 Deadline

The Carmarthenshire Community Development Fund is designed to provide not-for-profit voluntary and community groups with a new source of funding to develop community facilities and activities.  The scheme has a total of £90,000 to distribute in 2010/11.  Individual grants can range from a minimum of £400 to a maximum of £4,000, covering up to 100% of eligible costs, and are available over one year only.  The 2010/11 financial year deadline is 30th July 2010.

Launch of the Gypsy Traveller New Sites Grant for 2010/11

The Gypsy Traveller New Sites Grant is an important element of the Welsh Assembly Government’s framework, which provides capital funding for local authorities to build new gypsy and traveller sites in Wales.  The 2010/11 funding round is now open to applications and the deadline for receipt of applications is 6th August 2010. Grants of up to 75% of costs are available to improve the quality of life for gypsy travellers by increasing site provision throughout Wales.

The European Commision Launch Call for Eco-innovation Projects to be Funded

The European Commission today launched a €35 million call for eco-innovation projects to be funded under the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme. Under the 2010 CIP Eco-innovation call for proposals, funds are available for new projects in the area of materials recycling, sustainable building products, the food and drink sector and green business practices. The call opens today and runs until 9th September 2010. To apply go to the Eco-innovation website.

The Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation

The Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation provides grant funding in support of projects that seek to: influence values and attitudes, promote equity and social justice and develop radical alternatives to current economic and social structures. The Foundation funds organisations in the UK that are working to influence policy, attitudes and values at a national or international level and will give particular consideration to small pioneering headquarters. Grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 per year for up to three years are available to UK registered charities and other organisations that can indicate a UK registered charity that will receive funds on their behalf. The deadline for applications to the autumn 2010 round is 15th September 2010.

Comic Relief UK Grant Programme – Cycle 4 Now Open to Applications

Comic Relief’s UK Grant Programme aims to bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people in the UK by investing in work that addresses people’s immediate needs, as well as tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice.  Registered charities and voluntary organisations (including social enterprises and community interest companies) in the UK are invited to apply for grants of between £25,000 and £40,000.  The deadline for Cycle 4 applications is 17th September 2010.  The full report can be found on the GRANTfinder website.

New Music 20×12 Scheme

The PRS for Music Foundation has launched New Music 20×12, a programme which will be part of the UK-wide celebrations of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, placing new music centre-stage at the Cultural Olympiad.  The Call for Proposals invites music organisations, festivals, ensembles, promoters or venues from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to present ideas for a new work, in any musical genre, that they would like to commission from a UK-based composer. The deadline for applications is 1st October 2010.

Intermediate Labour Market Scheme: Organisations Invited to Tender for Funding in Convergence Areas of Wales

Organisations wishing to tender for contracts to deliver services through the Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) Scheme are once again being invited to join the scheme’s approved supplier list. The scheme aims to reduce economic inactivity in Wales.  It will offer contracts to organisations providing personal development to disadvantaged people facing barriers to employment, through a period of supported employment and training.  The deadline for submitting a PQQ is 29th April 2011. AdvantAGE Older People Fund – Briefing Events Announced Prior to Programme Launch

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has released outline details of a proposed new fund to support older people in Wales.  The AdvantAGE Older People Programme aims to improve the quality of life for those aged over 50, by providing access to befriending or advocacy services.There is an overall budget of £20 million available.  Individual grants of between £200,000 and

Sustainable Development Challenge Fund

Many organisations, communities and individuals are often aware of new innovative and creative approaches that could help promote sustainable development . The Sustainable Development Challenge Fund is intended to support organisations, communities and businesses develop innovative new approaches to sustainable development in Wales. Community Asset Transfer Programme – Round 2

The CAT programme is an exciting first, involving a partnership between the Welsh Assembly Government and the Big Lottery Fund (BIG). Capital, revenue and development funding is available under Round 2 to support enterprising communities to use assets to generate income streams and provide quality services and amenities. Round 2 of the programme is open. This funding round will be delivered via a two stage process. Organisations will need to complete a stage one application but will only be required to develop and submit their stage two application if successful at stage one. BIG Simplifies Small Grants Process and Promises Earlier Decisions

The Big Lottery Fund is introducing a “lighter-touch” Reaching Communities application process for organisations seeking grants of up to £40,000 a year.

All applicants will learn at an earlier stage whether their project has a decent chance of being funded, so that those that are invited to the second stage will have a much higher chance of success. More than three-quarters of people that responded to the consultation said they wanted earlier decisions on applications, based on a few key questions at the enquiry stage.

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council – Welsh Church Act Fund

Maximum Grant – £2,000

Aim of the Fund

The Fund will only approve grants fort he repair of the fabric of buildings which are more than 50 years old, and are of the highest architectural and historic interest.  Church halls however, where avilable and used significantly by the public for non-religious purposes will not be subject to these criteria.  The church membership and normal size of the congregation will be taken into consideration.

Grants will not exceed £2,000 per applicant.  Grants will not normally cover the full cost of a project and normally be approved at 60% of actual costs incurred up to a maximum as outlined above.

Sportlot Community Chest

Maximum Grant £1,000

Aim of the Fund

This is grant aid from the Sports Council for Wales, which is administered by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.  The Chest aims to make a difference to local grass roots sporting and physical activities, which increase participation, improve standards of performance or have health improvement benefits. Funding should be for projects, which create new, additional or improved oppourtunities to participate in physical activites and promote health focused active recreation e.g. walking, cycling etc.

Organisations or groups with a bank account working within Neath Port Talbot are eligible for the grant.  The grant will fund e.g. new team/activity start up costs, publicity and promotional materials, new sports events or festivals, start up transport costs in rural area, coach education (to qualify new or exisiting coaches to a higher level), equipment.

Grants between £5,000 – £10,000

Aim of the fund

Splash is the water recreation challenge fund for Wales.  Wales has some of the finest waters that are used for many activities such as gorge walking, swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing, rowing, diving and much more.  The Welsh Assembly Governemnt is offering up to 100% grants to projects which help people to enjoy the wonderful waters of Wales.

The money is being made available for projects that secure new or improved public access to Wales’ rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs and costal waters for recreational and educational activites.

Communities First Trust Fund

Communities First areas across Wales are set to receive over £3m from the Communities First Trust Fund for 2010/2011.  The popular Grants scheme aimed at small local groups in Communities First areas is welcoming applications from a range of community projects including music and the arts.  Organisations wishing to apply to the Trust Fund and for further information on the Communities First programme should contact the Communities First Helpline on (0800 587 8898) or they are available to download from the WCVA website  Grants and Loans / Communities First Trust Fund.

The Rural Development Plan

The Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007 – 2013 is the mechanism by which the Welsh Assembly Government will deliver activities which support the countryside and rural communities, encouraging the sustainable management of agriculture and the environment.

There are four key areas that the Plan will improve:

  • Axis 1 – The competitiveness of agriculture and forestry
  • Axis 2 – Our environment and countryside
  • Axis 3 – The quality of life in rural areas
  • Axis 4 – Leader: locally based approaches to rural development

In September 2009, the Welsh Assembly Government announced a second round of RDP funding for projects to start in March 2011.  For more information and to make an expression of interest go to the Neath Port Talbot CBC website.

Launch of the Community Asset Transfer Fund for Public and Third Sector Organisations in Wales

New Big Lottery Welsh Assembly Community Asset Transfer Fund Programme and criteria, along with Fast Track application forms and other details, have recently been posted on the Big Lottery Fund Wales website.

The new Fund will be officially launched by Leighton Andrews AM on Wednesday 4th November at The Gate Arts Centre in Roath, Cardiff at 10am. Further briefing events will also be held at Coed Y Dinas in Welshpool on the 6th November, Galeri Caernarfon on the 10th November and Brynaman Centre on the 12th November. Big Lottery Fund: People’s Millions – Public Voting Commences for 2009 Projects

The People’s Millions competition gives communities throughout the UK the opportunity to win local public support and share in £3.5 million of Lottery funding. Grants of up to £50,000 will be provided for projects that transform local environments and offer opportunities or facilities for people to take part and enjoy their local area.  This includes initiatives focusing on buildings, amenities, public and green spaces and natural habitats. Communities First Outcomes Fund

This fund is aimed specifically at Communities First Areas and has a broad remit covering the Communities First vision framework.  Community groups and organisations can get together with Communities First Partnerships to work on projects to benefit communities.  The fund is valued at over £20 million and there is still a substantial amount of money remaining.  For more information contact Neath Port Talbot CVS on 01639 631246.

Computers for Rural People Scheme (UK)

Individuals clubs and organisations, etc, in rural areas that need access to information and services, are able to purchase fully functioning ex-government computers for as little as £99. The computers are being made available through the Arthur Rank Centre. This is a collaborative unit supported by the National Churches, the Royal Agricultural Society of England and the Rank Foundation. For organisations that need more than one computer; e.g. for a Drop-in centre, School etc. the prices are even lower. Go to the Arthur Rank Centre website for more information.

Co-op Group Community Dividend Fund (England & Wales)

The Community Dividend Fund uses the “odd pence” donated from Co-operative Group Dividend cardholders to fund projects that benefit local communities. Community and voluntary groups as well as charities are able to apply for funding of between £100 and £5,000 to support projects that benefit the local community. To be eligible, the project must benefit a local community in which at least one Co-operative group business trades. The type of activities supported must fulfil a perceived need in the local community by addressing community issues such as combating crime and anti-social behaviour, promoting education and improving health. Activities must also target disadvantaged groups or areas and be in line with Co-operative values and principles. Applications can be made at any time. Climate change affects us all, and more and more third sector groups are fighting against it.

WCVA Climate Change Fund scheme can offer grants, ranging from £200 to £2000, to third sector groups yet to engage with climate change. You can use this to raise awareness of global warming, explore the impact of climate change on your activities, set up recycling facilities, link up with groups that already have an environmental remit. The third sector has a huge impact when it comes to tackling the causes and consequences of climate change. It can communicate the dangers of global warming, address the issue in innovative ways and alter public behaviour by demonstrating the huge impact of minor lifestyle alterations. Your group could play a key role in combating the crisis.

Welsh Assembly Government Help Expand Broadband Internet Connection

The Welsh Assembly Government has revealed that it is to launch a new scheme to reduce the number of rural areas of the country without broadband Internet. A new grant scheme is likely to complement current work undertaken by BT to provide broadband access to remote communities across Wales, ensuring people have greater control over the broadband solutions they receive. European funding will be used to improve high-speed broadband coverage for individuals and communities following an agreement with the European Commission. The scheme will be launched in the summer and further details will be reported on GRANTfinder when available. GwirVol StreetGames Grants Scheme – Open to Applications

This new initiative is designed to help develop structured sports programmes in disadvantaged communities in Wales, by involving young people aged 16-25 as volunteers is open to applicants. Project funding of up to £2,000 per project is available. As well as funding, the projects will also have access to training, support and mentoring, along with qualifications including Community Sports Leadership Awards and recognition awards such as the Millennium Volunteers Award.

The grants will help organisations to provide opportunities that will challenge young people, meet their aspirations and add value to their communities. There are no limits on the type of sports that will be supported, from football to cheerleading. Not-for-profit organisations, including community groups and sports clubs in disadvantaged communities in Wales, may apply.

Applications may be submitted at any time.
