Proposals to re-allocate National Lottery shares

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is consulting on proposals to reallocate national lottery shares, and is asking for responses by 21 August 2010. The current distribution sees 50% of the total ‘good causes’ funding go to the Big Lottery Fund, focusing on health, education, environment and charitable causes. The remainder is evenly distributed in shares of 16.7% to heritage (through the National Heritage Lottery Fund), sport (in Wales, through the Sports Council for Wales) and arts (in Wales, through the Arts Council for Wales). DCMS proposes, over two years from 1 April 2011, to increase the amounts for sport, arts and heritage to 20% each, and to decrease the share for the Big Lottery Fund from 50% to 40% over the same period.
