A copy of the results of the ‘Care at Home’ workforce study is now available on the Care Council for Wales’ website. The study, which was commissioned by the Care Council for Wales and conducted by the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care, the University of Glamorgan, Insight Social Research and the Management Standards Consultancy, looked at:

what the workforce currently looked like;

the vision for the future workforce; and

what was needed to make the current workforce fit for the future.

They invite you to consider and to debate the results of the study and to let them have your views. There will be a major action planning event on 28 September 2010 which will allow the audience to discuss the findings with the researchers and other specialists in the field, and to contribute to determining the next steps. In the autumn, the study and the response we have received from our partners will be reported to the Welsh Assembly led Social Care & Social Work Workforce Task group whose terms of reference include care at home. or more information, for a hard copy of the Care at Home Summary Report and to feed in your comments on the study, please contact Sheila Lyons, Manager, Development and Innovation (Adult Services) by email – sheila.lyons@ccwales.org.uk.

Orders to remove the terms ‘Local Education Authority’ and ‘Children’s Services Authority’ from primary and secondary legislation and replacing with ‘Local Authority’

The Welsh Assembly Government has notified us that from 5 May 2010, the terms ‘Local Education Authority’ and ‘Children’s Services Authority’ have been repealed and replaced by the single term ‘Local Authority’ in both primary and secondary legislation. This simply brings the legislation in line with current policy and practice and will not change its substantive meaning.

The Welsh Local Government Association was consulted on the planned changes to legislation and gave a positive response.

The relevant Parliamentary Orders are ‘The Local Education Authorities and Children’s Services Authority (Integration of Functions) Order 2010’ and ‘The Local Education Authorities and Children’s Services Authorities (Integration of Functions) (Local and Subordinate Legislation) Order 2010’. In addition, ‘The Local Education Authorities and Children’s Services Authorities (Integration of Functions) (Wales) Order 2010’ amends the references in Measures of the National Assembly and ‘The Local Education Authorities (Integration of Functions) (Subordinate Legislation) (Wales) Order 2010’, the references in secondary legislation that applies in relation to Wales only.
Hyperlinks to the relevant Orders are provided below:
