What are volunteering?

The word “volunteer” comes from the Latin “voluntarius” – voluntary. A volunteer is a concept denoting a person who voluntarily and gratuitously performs any work or is engaged in social activities. A volunteer invests in the business in which he is engaged, his skills and time.

Anyone can become a volunteer, the profession and world views do not matter. Minor volunteers need permission from their parents, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an official when volunteering. The exact definition of a volunteer and the possible goals of volunteering are spelled out in the Federal Law “On Charitable Activities and Volunteering”.

Volunteering can be both individual and group. For example, if you went out alone or together with a friend and removed garbage from the river bank, then you can assume that you are already environmental volunteers.

In any case, keep in mind that volunteering is a serious tool for the social, cultural, economic and environmental development of the country.

Services

Volunteers provide active assistance to those segments of the population who most need participation and social care. Volunteers can often be found in social welfare services, in nursing homes. Institutions for persons with disabilities and orphanages also fall within the scope of volunteers’ activities. Volunteers are involved in collecting things for those who were in the disaster zone or were injured after a fire. This is not to say that in absolutely all cases the work of volunteers is not paid. But more often than not, volunteers work in exchange for gaining experience, knowledge and skills, establishing useful personal contacts.
